54mm NAPOLEONIC Game 2 (One hour wargame)

Having bought Neil Thomas's book on "one hour wargaming" thought it was only right to give it a go.
I decided to use the collection of 54mm Napoleonics that I had at the time for the game on a 6 x 4 table. Previously I had play tested myself with a few games using 20mm ACW and it played great. So off we went. The table below shows the positions at the beginning of play with the Allied forces on the left including British and Dutch/Belgian forces ready to advance on the French Guard and supports. Just for morale I placed the Emperor and "Old Nosey" himself at the head of their respective forces. The games rues are quite simple and work around each unit having a number of points at the start of a game.

The Allied forces from the top a Highland Brigade with a British Guards Brigade and finally to regiments of Dutch/Belgian troops. Supported by guns from the British foot Artillery.

The French have a large Brigade of Grenadier and Chasseurs of the Guard supported on each flank by Young Guard regiments and supporting Guard foot Artillery.

In the opening salvoes the Allies advance at great speed towards the enemy. But withering fire takes its toll. Also for some inexplicable reason the French decide to advance themselves...wargames rules eh???

Predominant fighting takes place in the centre and the Allies are hard pushed to hold on. Finally retreating with heavy losses in the face of the hail of shot... I now know that all out charges may not be the way forward when plating "One Hour Wargames".
