28mm World War Two British "LRDG" Long Range Desert Group

This is a small collection of vehicles and figures done for John Nic. a collector of all things WW2.

John sent me this little lot as an eBay buy that had basic paint on and needed some TLC..

I went to town with these adding lots of guns and stowage etc.. really trying to make them look the part.

Many of the figures are from Artizan designs , so they really paint themselves and I think that the vehicles are from Warlord but as they were from eBay don't quote me...lol

I put many of the drivers etc...into the vehicles and they came from numerous companies but gave the set a realistic feel.

I sprayed the vehicles first with a coat of Humbrols dark earth to start them as it is a little lighter than others and dry brushed up from there.

The figures started with a coat of Halfords chrome primer and then a brown wash and dry brushing.

 

28mm World War two Finnish troops

Hi guys I have just finished this WW2 Finnish troops commission and I thought you might like a look.

The troops are from Warlord ones in grey and an unknown to me but I bet all the ww2 people will know.

I enjoyed painting and basing these chaps as they are a little different from other theatres I do.

I did note that a lot of the equipment and weapons are a mix of German and Russian.

This anti tank rifle looks a little different though...

A special add on for the purists...

 

1st Corps "Dad's Army" characters in 28mm

I just couldn't resist painting this set once I had seen them. The brothers at 1st Corps have done numerous figures for this lot but these took my eye.

Below are the gang all outside the church hall fallen in with Jonesy as usual out of step.

Here we se the same set on top of the white cliffs believing they can hear the German's tunnelling in underneath.

 

More 28mm WWII Early French

Here we have some of the early war French sets that I have recently done for my friend John to add to his growing collection of WWII.

Below are shown some of the Warlord games Cavalry both mounted and dismounted. I have done these figures in the olive drab greatcoats of the period as apposed to the usual Brown as a distinction on the battle field for John and it seems to have worked ok.

These net set of pictures show the light artillery piece along with the Char B tank with markings from a Cuirassiers battalion supported by infantry. Again the figures I believe are from Warlord Games growing collection.

More WWII Early War French Update 1

Below are the Artillery and Heavy tank added to my friend Johns French forces...most of the figures are from Warlord Games this time round but fit in really well with the earlier Crusader figures as the can see from the earlier post that I've added to the bottom of this one.

First we have the Char 2C Heavy tank...This French tank was one of the biggest ever built ,but so very little action if none at all as most were captured by the Germans on rail cars during the early stages heading away from the action. Also we have the 105mm Heavy Howitzer manned here by four men.

Next with the others we see the 75mm light gun a mainstay of French forces

 at the time and when used properly a foil for German armour.

Having finally finished these lovely Early French for my friend John. I took the opportunity for a little shoot and chose the idea of a line of troops setting up against a fence line awaiting the German onslaught. The figures are from Crusader miniatures who do a fine range of these French for this period.

28mm World War Two Russian Infantry

Had a great time painting these lovely lot. Even though the majority are plastics they were well detailed from Warlord and lots of pose variety. They are for a friend in Tennessee and I hope he'll be happy with em.

Decided on a lovely diorama ton show them off and went for a number of variant uniforms from all brown to a mix of the green and brown. 

28mm WW2 BOLT ACTION 44 part 3

Well I've finally got back to the game and the troops finally got into action as they realised that each other was there. The Americans took the first casualties as there jeep crew was hit and pinned down on the main street , opened fire on by numerous German stuff.

The Americans headed straight for the nearest cover with the Germans doing the same and a long fire fight starting up.

After a couple of rounds of the fire fight finally the German 1st para squad supported by the Stug enter the field by the bridge.

Unfortunately for the Germans the Americans brought up all their supports led by the Sherman

Here we can see the position after the 5th round of play and its getting hot in there!!!

28mm WW2 BOLT ACTION 44 Part 2

Before any moves were made I decided that at first only half of each force would join the table at first and then after 4 turns the rest of the forces could appear as a sort of reserve and also I decided that the Americans would throw a dice for their initial advance track as they came to the first junction which would simulate the fact that they did not know were the Germans were.

The game started with a German draw and the kubelwagen was sent forward towards the broken down truck to check on it and to cover any advance from the enemy. 

The next draw was an American move and the jeep advanced forward .

On the next draw the hanomag was sent forward to join the kubelwagen and is carrying the command team...1st SS squad and the sniper team

Next another German draw and the SDKFZ 222 advanced down the second road towards the centre of the town

With the next draw being American an M3 advance to join the jeep carrying the command team and the 1st infantry squad

With a German draw the 2nd SS squad advanced on foot up the second road to support the 222 and the German final draw was a machine gun team that advanced to support the hanomag

The final draw for this turn was the American truck joining the other vehicles and carrying the 2nd infantry squad and the sniper team

SO AT THE END OF THE 1ST TURN ...NO ACTUAL CONTACT AS YET...

The 2nd turn started with the German kubelwagen advancing further into town to access any threat

This was quickly supported by the hanomag

the German command then alighted the vehicle followed by the SS squad

Again the Germans got the draw and advanced the 222 further into the middle of town

but as yet no contcts

Then came the American draws and this included the truck unloading its infantry squad to check the rea before any advance further into town

As well as the M3 off loading its command team

Finally for this turn the Germans advanced their 2nd SS squad up to support the 222 and the machine gun team further up the road

SO AT THE END OF THE 2ND TURN ...STILL NO CONTACT and the situation is as seen below...

I think in turn 3 the action is going to come very quickly as both sides are advancing straight at each other as they check the town...
