28mm British in Africa 1850's Skirmish game

The collection used for this game I painted for my great mate John Martin and it resides today in his cabinets.

The idea for the game is a force of British troops have set up a camp at an African trading post but the local tribes haven't actually agreed to this incursion so when a supply train is spotted heading for the post with more troops the tribes decide to attack.

Below shows the camp and its defences and the supplies approaching

Here we see the tribes that have united to face this threat under the chief of the largest tribe

The troops in the camp start to realise the danger

The supply train needs to hurray as their troops start to form up to face an attack

The warriors start  to poor down from the hills towards the supply train to try to hit it before it reaches the camp

The regulars and askaris in the camp take to the walls to repulse the attack

Skirmishers start to poor fire on the charging warriors

More warriors start to poor down from the hills and the camp is now charged

The supply train finally gets to the camp as the warriors are desperately close

With the camp now fully defended it will be will power against fire power as the warriors full attack hits the barricades 

The hand to hand fight is ferocious and there are heavy casualties on both sides

But the troopers second line halts the warriors in their tracks and forces their retreat

The poor Chief of the tribes gave his life for the cause but to no avail as can be seen by the arrow and the British juggernaut in Africa roles on...

GALLERY: 28mm Colonial Darkest Africa

Hi all ,well the Darkest Africa idea came to me quite late on in my painting life really....I had had many of the Foundry figures for some time in bags in my workshop ,but until I purchased the German Colonial stuff from e-bay I hadn't really thought of it. I didn't even know there make but they just appealed to me. That was the start ,and the more I checked out what I actually had . The bigger the collection grew.
Shown first below are the German Colonials and the Rifles and Askaris. Really enjoyed painting these and loved the me train and artillery piece.

Here we start the British contingent with Sikh infantry as well as Natives in uniform and Regulars. My particular favourite are the Sailors.

Next comes our great friends the Belgian troops and natives from the Congo.

Here we have my special sets of the Mem sahib party's hunters and safaris.

Then no Darkest Africa game is right without you native warriors in all there guises from Masi to Zulu's and all in between.

 

Finally we have our contingent of Slavers and Zanzibaris all making for very varied games and great fun was had by all.

OH and at least one set of mercenaries...Red Russians would you believe...lol
