28mm INFAMY INFAMY Caesar & Pompey project

I so enjoyed doing the collection of the Year of the Four Emperors for Infamy Infamy that I decided to start the second of these projects and do the late republics war between Caesar and Pompey.

I already had the figures in my stash and decided on figures from both Foundry and companion for one side and Old Glory for the other...

Below we have my Pompeian forces so far with some Numidian javelinmen...I really enjoyed doing these figures they are lovely to paint and Mark Copplestone is a great designer.  

The shields are again transfers that I have had for many years just waiting for this project

Below we have my forces of Caesar with some archers and Gallic Mercenaries.

Here the sculpting is not quite as well defined but these are a lot older figures and they work well in the project so I am very happy with them.

With many of these troops I have chosen to hand paint the shields just for more variant in the designs

 

28mm Barons Wars "Retro" project

I have had these figures for many years and decided recently to start doing the collection when the new rules for this period came out.

The collection is built from Essex , Citadel , Foundry and Crusader.

I also have men at arms and archers with billmen and crossbowmen and am looking forward to finish this collection.

Also with my good friend Frazer building a massive collection of this period I need to get my finger out...lol

Below we see King Henry 3rd with his son Edward and many of his nobles.

Below we see Simon De Montford with his son and the rebel nobles that backed him.

Here we have a large number of Knights on foot that I have painted using some great shield transfers that I was given about 25 years ago...

I really enjoyed painting these figures and doing all the variety of the colours used

 

28mm 1st Corps ACW Confederate "Zouaves"

Just a quick one here as I was again asked by the 1st Corps team to do them some Confederate troops for a big game they were organising so after a quick look at  Don Troiani , I said what about the Louisiana special Zouaves , Tigers as we know them and the 1st Louisiana Zouaves.

This has allowed me to use both of the Zouave types that 1st Corps do, and you can see below how good they are..

The Tigers can be done in their early uniform using the boys original Zouave figures with the addition of some boater heads or you can do them as I have here, in the later uniform were shirts were dominant

 

28mm English Civil War Cavalry & Dragoons

I have always had a soft spot for this period and the chance came for me to paint some of these lovely Empress minis earlier this year when Paul Hamilton sent me these little beauties.

Below are Okey's Dragoons in marching order and moving to the front ready to take on those bloody Parliamentarians.

Here we see the same Dragoons dismounted and in skirmish order

This was a great change for me painting the same unit both mounted and on foot

Now below we have a couple of units of Royalist cavalry both trotting and charging again all from Empress and I am Impressed...

 

28mm War of the Roses Commands for "Battle of Bosworth"

Now these commands were an absolute gem to paint.

As a watcher of many Youtube channels I had seen lots of my friends start to paint WOTR collections , so when my great mate John Martin asked me to paint these for his re-fight at the actual battle site this year it was a no brainer...

John sent me the figures and they are a mix of both Perry and Front Rank and I set to work.

Below we have the Yorkist commanders with Richard himself and the Dukes/ Earls of Norfolk and Northumberland as well as Lincoln.

Here we have the "Welshman" (you can tell were I am from ) Henry Tudor with the Earl of Oxford , Lord Stanley and Rhys ab Thomas..

I was at the game at Bosworth and what a great day ...cheers John and Andy Murby and I know that they are now going on display at the visitors centre for all to see.

 

28mm ACW collection for "SHARP PRACTICE".

Now as a painter when you get a request like this to paint a collection of your favourite figures of all time your mouth just drops...

and this is what happened to me when the Curtis boys of 1st Corps asked me to paint this collection...

They had decided to have two sides of ACW for Sharp Practice and rather than re-base some of their own stuff they asked me to do them a new...

Below are the 3 groups of Union firing line with commands and a few advancing /charging

Here we see a Union advancing charging group with a sergeant and other command figures.

Now the icing so to speak with the Union Berdan sharpshooters.

All the figures are obviously 1st Corps and I am sure you will agree even though some are now thirty years old in the making they still look great on the table.

Below we see some Confederate groups charging forward and again their commands...

And here we see a number of groups forming a Confederate firing line as they move through a corn field.

Again these figures were a pleasure to paint and I know the lads have had many a game with them already.

 

28mm Mexican American War Command Stands

 

Now I really enjoyed these...

I was asked by my mates Michael & Simon at 1st Corps if I would do some command stands for their own collection of Mex/Am war and I jumped at the chance.

The figures are really beautiful and its a much underrated period as it plays really well.

The uniforms are really great and colourful and its like a slightly later look at the tactics of the peninsular war played out on another continent.

Below you see the American commands with 4 figures on the divisional base and 2 figures each on the Brigade bases.

There are both cavalry and infantry commands ...

Below are the Mexican bases again with 4 figures on the Divisional base and 2 each on the brigade bases.

The Mexican bases look really colourful and the variant available in uniforms really adds to the look.

28mm World War Two British "LRDG" Long Range Desert Group

This is a small collection of vehicles and figures done for John Nic. a collector of all things WW2.

John sent me this little lot as an eBay buy that had basic paint on and needed some TLC..

I went to town with these adding lots of guns and stowage etc.. really trying to make them look the part.

Many of the figures are from Artizan designs , so they really paint themselves and I think that the vehicles are from Warlord but as they were from eBay don't quote me...lol

I put many of the drivers etc...into the vehicles and they came from numerous companies but gave the set a realistic feel.

I sprayed the vehicles first with a coat of Humbrols dark earth to start them as it is a little lighter than others and dry brushed up from there.

The figures started with a coat of Halfords chrome primer and then a brown wash and dry brushing.

 

28mm Napoleonic French Middle Guard "Fusilier Grenadiers"

                          

These chaps were a pleasure to paint for my mate Neil Tew for his collection...

Neil had previously had me do ECW for him but these were a nice change and the Front Rank figures are a delight.

The figures are all in full dress and I know lots of gamers like there naps this way as it adds to the spectacle on the table.

The uniform is quite unique for this period as they are part of the Guard and yet have retained the shako rather than the bearskin and their plumes make them very colourful.

I took the opportunity of putting them against some Prussians for a quick photo chance.

                                 

28mm Napoleonic Prussians for Waterloo

Another great collection for my good mate Paul Spence ...

This time a lovely set of Prussian Regulars for the Waterloo campaign and some beautiful Landwehr for the same period.

The figures are all from the Perry's and the regulars are in advancing poses and have skirmishers whilst the Landwehr are marching.

I really enjoyed painting these but please don't look to closely at the flags as they are there for effect...lol

The Landwehr are in the British style of uniform that was adopted by the Prussians near the end of the wars and many reservist units had this in their own colours and facings and again it makes for different units in a game.

28mm Tombstone using Dixon Minis "Wild West"

Having watched a lot of great games of "dead mans hand " and other games on Youtube of the Wild West , I decided to have a go myself and opted for the "Lawless" basic rules and had a go with my Dixon collection...

I set up my town and went for the idea of the Earps against the "Cowboys".

Below you can see the two sides as I would play them.

 

I made my own cards for the game and decided on a quick encounter scenario with the gang leaving a saloon just as the Lawmen were leaving the sheriff's office.

The game played really quickly and before I knew it there were lots of dead cowboys and an Earp force standing strong...Really enjoyed this and made a nice change...and have to say love the Dixon stuff.
